Formation of the Street
Ivana Kotliarevskoho Street, located in the historic Kastelivka district, emerged in the late 19th century as part of Lviv’s expansion. Initially, it was named Nabielaka in honor of Polish poet Ludwik Nabielak. During the German occupation in 1942, it was renamed Schillergasse, and in 1944, the previous name was restored. The current name, Ivana Kotliarevskoho Street, was assigned in 1946 to honor Ukrainian writer, poet, and playwright Ivan Kotliarevsky, the founder of modern Ukrainian literature.
The street’s development is marked by architectural diversity, predominantly featuring styles such as Viennese Secession, historicism, modernism, and functionalism. Most buildings are listed in the Register of Local Architectural Monuments of Lviv.
