Street Formation
Dorosha Street is a small yet atmospheric street located in the Lychakivskyi District of Lviv. It runs parallel to Zelenа and Ivana Franka Streets, not far from Stryiskyi Park. The street took shape in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, during a period of active villa-style residential development in this part of the city.
Originally, it was named Modrzejowskiego Street, likely after a Polish intellectual or cultural figure. During the interwar period, the street was part of a prestigious residential district near the villas on Ivana Franka, Metrologichna, and Snopkivska Streets.
In the Soviet era, the street was renamed in honor of Kuzma Dorosh (1903–1981), a Ukrainian publicist, activist, and political figure of the Ukrainian diaspora. He served as the head of the Ukrainian National Council in the USA and a representative of Ukrainians abroad. The renaming aligned with the Soviet post-war policy of assigning new ideological toponyms.
Today, Dorosha Street maintains its cozy residential character. The area is dominated by low-rise buildings, most of which have distinctive architectural features, including elements of interwar modernism and Secession. Some houses were modified in the second half of the 20th century, but the overall scale and layout of the street remain largely unchanged.
