Formation of the Street

Kolberga Street in Lviv is situated in the historic district of Kastelivka, which underwent significant development in the late 19th century. The project was initiated by renowned architects Julian Zachariewicz and Ivan Levynskyi, who aimed to create an exemplary colony of single-family homes. Specifically, in 1889–1890, they designed and constructed villas at Kolberga Street, numbers 4 and 8, in the Neo-Romantic style of late Historicism. Building number 6, erected in 1902 by builder Emanuel Jarymovych, complemented this ensemble of villas. These three structures share a common garden space, emphasizing the “garden city” concept that was popular at the time.

Builders and Styles

The individual residential building—a villa—was constructed in 1889–1890, with architects Julian Zachariewicz and Ivan Levynskyi collaborating on the project. The building serves as the central element of a group that also includes houses at numbers 4 and 8 on Kolberga Street. These three villas feature a strip of flowerbeds laid out in front of their facades and share a communal garden space within the block. The style represents the Neo-Romantic trend of late Historicist architecture. In later years, the villa underwent significant renovations.
