Formation of the Street

Vasylkivskoho Street in Lviv is a small street located within the residential development of the city’s eastern part. It took shape during the interwar period, when Lviv was actively expanding toward the areas of Novyi Lviv, Pohulianka, and Snopkiv. Its formation is associated with the planned suburban development of the 1920s–1930s, when new neighborhoods emerged, predominantly featuring one- and two-story detached houses.

The street received its current name during the Soviet period, in honor of Hryhorii Vasylkivskyi (1854–1917) — a renowned Ukrainian painter, master of landscape and historical themes, who played a significant role in the development of national art. The naming of the street is part of a broader cultural narrative within the urban space, shaped by commemorating Ukrainian artists, scholars, and public figures.

In terms of urban planning, Vasylkivskoho Street functions as a local access road that connects residential lots but does not serve as a major traffic artery. Its spatial character retains the features of a pre-war suburb, later complemented by Soviet-era and contemporary low-rise development.
