Residential Building

Formation of the Street

Yuriy Mushak Street is located in the Lychakivskyi district of Lviv, in the historical area of Sofiyivka. Its formation took place at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th centuries as part of the city’s southeastern expansion. Initially, the street was named Dvernytskoho, and later it was renamed several times: Holonivska (1941), Badgasse (1943), Instytutska (1946), 30th Anniversary of Victory (1975). In 1991, it was renamed in honor of Yuriy Mushak, a Ukrainian linguist, translator, and educator.

A distinctive feature of the street is that the numbering of buildings starts from No. 20. This is due to the fact that the streets of Svientsitskoho, Mushak, and Lemyk were previously a single street, which was renamed seven times since 1885. The unified numbering of buildings for these streets has been preserved due to historical changes in city toponymy.
