Formation of the Street
Nizhynska Street is located in the Lychakivskyi district of Lviv, in the historical area of Lychakiv. It stretches from Lychakivska Street to Chernecha Hora Street, forming intersections with Akademika Krypiakevycha and Repina Streets. In the mid-19th century, this street was known as Lychakivska Vyscha Bichna. From 1871, its beginning and left branch were called Piskova, and the right branch — Na Debrakh. In 1890, part of Piskova Street was renamed Pauliniv, in memory of the Roman Catholic monastic order of the Paulines. In 1933, Na Debrakh Street was merged into Pauliniv Street. In 1945, the street received its current name — Nizhynska, in honor of the Ukrainian city of Nizhyn.
The street’s development occurred mainly in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, featuring buildings in the styles of Viennese Classicism, Constructivism of the 1930s, five-story buildings from the 1960s–1990s, and modern new constructions.
