Street Formation

Pekarska Street is one of the oldest streets in Lviv, situated in the Lychakivskyi district. It stretches from Ivana Franka Street to Mechnykova Street, running parallel to Lychakivska and Levytskoho Streets. The street features diverse architectural styles, including Viennese classicism, modernism, Zakopane style, constructivism, Stalinist empire style, and contemporary buildings. Pekarska Street hosts numerous educational and medical institutions, making it a significant part of the city’s infrastructure.


Builders and Styles

The building at 38 Pekarska Street was constructed in 1905, designed by architect Kazimierz Mokłowski for merchant Tadeusz Czarnecki. It is executed in the Zakopane style, which is rare in Lviv. This style, inspired by traditional Tatra architecture, is characterized by wooden elements, carvings, and decorative motifs.


Who Was the Owner?

At the time of construction, the owner of the building was Tadeusz Czarnecki, a well-known Lviv merchant. Information about the current owners is not available in open sources.


What Does the Building Look Like?

The building is a three-story tenement house featuring characteristic elements of the Zakopane style: wooden balconies, carved details, and a steep roof. The facade is adorned with decorative elements, giving it a unique appearance among Lviv’s architecture. In 2012, restoration work was carried out on the balcony, indicating efforts to preserve architectural heritage.

  • The building is one of the few examples of the Zakopane style in Lviv.

  • In the 1950s–1960s, the building housed a custom tailoring workshop and a law enforcement support point.

  • The building was part of a profitable complex that also included the neighboring building at number 40.

Today, the building remains residential. Some apartments are available for rent, including studio apartments with modern renovations.
