Formation of the Street

The street where the building is located has undergone several renamings throughout history. From 1916 to 1950, it was known as Feller Passage, established in the early 20th century. In 1950, the street was renamed in honor of Ihor Mykhalchuk, a member of the Communist Union of Youth of Western Ukraine, who died in 1933. In 2022, the street received its current name — Kavova (Coffee Street), reflecting Lviv’s coffee tradition and the abundance of cafés in the city.

Building No. 5 was constructed in the early 20th century. The architectural style of the building combines elements of classicism and historicism, characteristic of that period. The facade is adorned with decorative elements that give the building a distinctive appearance.

Who Was the Owner?

Originally, the building was privately owned. In the interwar period, it housed Lubin’s ladies’ hat atelier. During the Soviet era, the building became state property and was used as residential housing. Currently, the building is residential, with privatized apartments.

The building is three stories high with a symmetrical facade characteristic of early 20th-century architecture. The facade features minimalistic elements, large windows, and balconies. The decoration is minimal, without excessive decorative details.
