Formation of the Street
Sofii Yablonskoi Street is one of the old thoroughfares of Pidzamche in the Shevchenkivskyi District of Lviv. It began to take shape in the late 18th century as a road near a monastery. At the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century, development intensified, with the appearance of two- and three-story townhouses in the styles of Classicism, Viennese Secession, and Constructivism. During the Soviet period, the street was named Zavodska, and since 2022 it has borne the name of Sofiia Yablonska. Today, it is a narrow, cobbled, one-way street with historic buildings, green spaces, and public transport.
Builders and Styles

Like the neighboring buildings, it combines the classical symmetry of Classicism with elements of the Viennese Secession: rectangular windows with surrounds, a cornice band, and metal balconies. The facade is decorated with restrained stucco typical of residential buildings in Pidzamche, without excessive ornamentation.
Who was the owner?
In the interwar period, the building belonged to a local burgher or entrepreneur. During the Soviet era, it was nationalized. Today, it is in private co-ownership of the residents, managed by a homeowners’ association or a housing maintenance organization.
What does the building look like?
The building is three stories high with a basement; the facade is painted in light cream or beige tones. The ground floor has rectangular windows, while the upper floors feature elegant window surrounds and cornices. Above the entrance is a small balcony with metal railings. The facade is adorned with molded cornices and simple decorative finishing. There may be an arched passageway leading to a courtyard with utility outbuildings behind the house.
