Formation of the Street

Dmytra Dontsova Street is located in Lviv’s Lychakivskyi district, linking Pekarska and Lychakivska Streets. It was formed in the early 20th century during the urban development of the area around Pekarska Street. Originally known as Hlynanska Road, which led to the village of Hlyniany, it was gradually urbanized and integrated into the city’s street network.

Following the First World War, the street took on a more urban character, with multi-family houses and villas built by some of Lviv’s most prominent architects. Over the course of the 20th century, the street’s name changed multiple times, reflecting political shifts: Hlynanska (until 1933), Tadeusz Hołówko (1933–1939), Ridna Shkola during Nazi occupation, Kotovsky (1944–1992), and finally Dmytro Dontsov — since 1992, named after the influential Ukrainian nationalist thinker and publicist.

Architecturally, the street showcases examples of late Secession, early modernism, functionalism, and interwar neoclassicism. It is part of Lviv’s protected historical heritage zone.

What Does the Building Look Like?

The villa has two floors and a mansard roof, a light-colored plastered façade, rectangular windows with decorative frames, and a small balcony on the corner. Its overall architectural appearance is restrained but harmonious — typical of interwar suburban villas.
