As part of the World Art Nouveau Days in Lviv, the Art Library together with the Heritage Bureau in Lviv invites you to an exhibition of art nouveau tiles of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The leading motif of the exhibition is the variety of floral and plant ornaments that were used to decorate the tiles of the Art Nouveau period.

The exhibition included tiles from the factory of Ivan Levinsky, the Lviv regional factory of tile kilns of F. Waldman, a number of Czech factories – “Mayer”, “Leto”, “Zliv”, “Hardtmuth”, “Rako” and the Neuser factory, as well as several tiles from unknown manufacturers. All these tiles belong to the collection of Andrii Kamenshchyk.

The exhibition also features cornice elements and several tiles from another private collection. In addition to the tiles at the exhibition, you can view Secession publications from the collection of the Art Library and private book collections.

On June 11, at 5:00 p.m., as part of the opening of the “Flowers of the Art Nouveau Garden” exhibition, the Art Library will host a lecture by Vasyl Karpiv, a restorer and founder of the KARP Art Restorer restoration bureau, entitled “Art Nouveau paintings in Lviv interiors: research and restoration.”
Lviv is undoubtedly a city of art nouveau style – on its streets there are dozens of buildings decorated in the art nouveau style, and inside these buildings – hundreds of spaces with paintings and decor of that period. Many such spaces have already been restored, saved from layers of Soviet paint and shown to the world.

Some of these premises were restored by the restoration bureau KARP Art Restorer, which has been engaged in research and preservation of easel and monumental cultural heritage in a number of regions of Ukraine for more than 10 years.

Vasyl will talk about the objects that his office investigated and in which secession paintings were discovered. And using the example of the Art Library, Vasyl will tell in more detail about the restoration processes and changes in the interior of the premises before, during and after the restoration.
