The restored historical gate now adorns the building at 18 Antonovycha Street. Specialists, with the support of the LKP “Heritage Bureau,” worked on restoring the oak historical gate for several months.

“It’s hard to recognize the gate in its restored state compared to how it looked until recently. The gate was heavily damaged, and multiple layers of paint obscured the natural beauty of the wood. There is beautiful carving preserved here, but many elements were lost. We faced a lot of work, and its large dimensions added extra complexity,” said restorer Rostyslav Maletskyi.

Experts replaced damaged wood, restored lost decorative elements, installed new glazing and handles. The wooden doors were finished with acrylic glaze and wood stain.

“This is one of the first gates restored on Antonovycha Street under the co-financing program and another successful example of collaboration with residents to preserve the city’s heritage elements. The restoration work cost UAH 110,000, of which the city covered UAH 77,000, while the remaining portion was paid by residents who had previously applied to participate in the municipal co-financing program,” said Stefania Topylko, Director of the LKP “Heritage Bureau.”

It is worth noting that this year, the city of Lviv extended the Co-Financing Program for the Restoration of Doors and Windows in buildings within the historic area of the city until 2029. To learn how to participate in the program, visit the Heritage Bureau’s website in the “Co-Financing” section.
