Last year, the city of Lviv joined the international Reseau Art Nouveau Network (RANN), which is engaged in the study and promotion of the heritage of art nouveau, or secession or modern, as it is usually called in Ukraine. Therefore, together with our partners, this year’s theme for the World Art Nouveau Days, which will take place in June, was chosen. This topic will be about LIGHT.

Art Nouveau (from the French “l’art nouveau” – “new art”) is an artistic style that swept the world at the end of the XIX – at the beginning of 20th century, and consisted in the rejection of imitation of classical forms and the search for a new style. Artists drew inspiration from nature, folk architecture, and also admired Japanese art and its attraction to clean, unencumbered by decor, planes.

The project involves the study of the active role of Art Nouveau in modern society, which is rethinking itself in the context of sustainable development and aims to raise public awareness and solve current problems faced by Art Nouveau cultural heritage, in particular: environmental, educational and social.

Emphasizing transnational cooperation, the project brings together 12 partners, all members of the Réseau Art Nouveau (RANN): RANN, Horta Museum, Fondation Maison Léon Losseau, Urban.brussels (Belgium), Alcoy City Council (Spain); City Museum of Aveiro (Portugal); Budapest Museum of Applied Arts (Hungary); National Museum of Slovenia (Slovenia); Heritage Bureau in Lviv (Ukraine); Nancy Museum (France); Oradea Heritage (Romania); Riga City Council (Latvia). These partners, coordinated by RANN, use their local knowledge and experience to assess Art Nouveau heritage with a common goal: to highlight the importance of sustainable preservation of Art Nouveau properties.

Through joint efforts and creative initiatives, the project aims to inspire audiences from different backgrounds to contribute to preserving the Art Nouveau heritage for future generations.

The project is implemented with the support of the Executive Agency for Education and Culture (EACEA) of the European Commission and will last from January 2024 to September 2027. You can follow all project activities on the project’s social networks: Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn.
