The Heritage Bureau in Lviv invites everyone to join a series of events dedicated to the city’s Secession heritage.

The event will be held from June 6 to 10, and this year’s theme is Color.

Every year on June 10, the world celebrates the international holiday — World Art Nouveau Day. The initiative to establish this holiday was launched in 2013 by the Hungarian magazine Szecessziós Magazin in cooperation with the Museum of Applied Arts in Budapest. Since then, World Art Nouveau Day has been held annually with the support of the European movement Réseau Art Nouveau Network (Brussels) and Art Nouveau European Route (Barcelona). June 10 was chosen because on this day two prominent representatives of the style passed away: Antoni Gaudí and Ödön Lechner.

The program of events can be found at the link (registration for the activities will open on the project’s Facebook page on June 2 at 10:00).

“World Art Nouveau Days are not only exciting tours and new knowledge but also a significant contribution to the preservation and promotion of Ukrainian identity and cultural heritage. Especially today, in times of war, we strive to show the European community the depth and richness of our culture, while affirming our place in the European space.

This year’s theme is COLOR — an inseparable element of Secession style that shapes the mood, symbolism, and character of the architecture and art of the era.

During the events, residents and visitors of Lviv will have a chance to rediscover the city’s unique Art Nouveau heritage and its meaning for contemporary culture. We invite everyone to join this unique initiative — together let us discover, study, and preserve the colorful mosaic of Lviv’s history,” the organizers noted.

The project is implemented with the support of the European Education and Culture Executive Agency (EACEA) of the European Commission and will last from January 2024 to September 2027. All project activities can be followed on the project’s social media pages: Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn.

Affiliated partners of the project in Ukraine are the Center for Urban History and Lviv Polytechnic National University.

As a reminder, in 2023 the city of Lviv joined the international community of the Réseau Art Nouveau Network (RANN), which studies and promotes Art Nouveau heritage — or Secession/Modern, as it is often referred to in Ukraine. Thus, Lviv has now gained a platform to promote its Secession heritage internationally and, over the next four years, will implement together with European partners the project “Art Nouveau as a New Eurotopia: How the Past Can Be a Bridge to a Sustainable Future.”
